Brass Sailor hasn’t opened yet. There is no checkout on this site, so we collect very little: an email address if you ask to hear from us, and basic, mostly anonymous information about how the site is used. This page explains all of it.
If anything is unclear, or you’d like your information removed, write to hello@brasssailor.com.
What we collect
When you join the list: your email address, and your first name if you give it. That is the whole form.
When you write to us: whatever is in your email, and your email address.
As you browse: which pages were viewed, which links were clicked, and where the visit came from — the referring site and any campaign tags on the link you followed. Our server also sees your IP address and browser type, as every web server does.
We do not take payment details, shipping addresses, or phone numbers, because there is nothing to buy yet. We do not ask you to create an account.
How we use it
To email you when the collection is ready — and for nothing else. We will not sell, rent, or share your address with another brand, and every email we send will have an unsubscribe link.
To understand, in aggregate, which pages and images people spend time with, so we can make the site better.
To keep the site working and to block spam and abuse.
Cookies and analytics
Until you opt in, we count visits without identifying you — no tracking cookie is written. If you accept, we store a first-party identifier so repeat visits can be recognised as the same browser. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
Campaign tags and the referring site are held for the length of your visit only, in your browser’s session storage, and are discarded when you close the tab. Your light/dark preference is also stored in your browser.
We do not use advertising cookies and we do not run third-party ad trackers on this site.
Who else is involved
Our hosting provider, which runs the site and keeps standard server logs.
Google, on two counts: reCAPTCHA checks that form submissions come from a person and not a script, and our analytics records are stored in Google BigQuery. Google processes both under its own privacy policy and only for the work we ask of it.
Whichever service we use to send the launch email, once we send one — it will receive your address for that purpose only.
We share information with authorities only where we are legally required to. We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics records are kept as individual events — a page viewed, a link clicked, and the identifier described above if you accepted one — and we read them in aggregate. Ask us and we’ll delete yours. Because we take no orders, we hold no order or payment records at all.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold on you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — including taking you off the list entirely. Write to hello@brasssailor.com and we’ll take care of it within thirty days.
Children
This site is not directed at children under thirteen and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us an email address, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
This policy will change when the shop opens and we begin taking orders — at that point we will be handling addresses and payments and this page will say so. The date at the top tells you when it was last revised.
